The Human Library

Basic description: Bring together a wide array of members of your community to be "on-loan" for dialogue and discussion, as if they were library books.

How-to: Find a public gathering space and invite participants (from as widely diverse a pool as possible) to come and be available to visitors to swap stories, interact, engage in debates and discussions. Have people stand in rows like library books, and give participants the opportunity to "check out" anyone they wish for a conversation. Break stereotypes and meet new friends!

Impact statement: Gathering a broad range of people together to talk face-to-face about their experiences is intended to break-down stereotypes and open lines of communication between  groups and individuals in your community. The Human Library works to reduce prejudice, encourage the valuation of diversity, and form new connections.
