In April 2023, we hosted our Spring Network Gathering with special guests Layel Camargo from Shelterwood Collective and Saleem Hue Penny, who helped us understand the broad ways that cultural organizing takes place.
“We are in a colonial period where there is a desire to change that mindframe because the sustainability of our species depends on it.”—Layel Camargo
We heard such heartfelt contributions from Saleem Hue Penny on the need to protect Black children such as Ralph Yarl, and Layel Camargo on the intersection of culture and land that is necessary to address the climate crisis. We also heard from you what you were doing to address climate justice, racial justice, and economic justice in your own communities. We left our Network Gathering feeling refreshed and inspired! And a big shoutout to Alamo City Interpreters for providing ASL interpretation.
If you missed our Network Gathering, you can access the recording here. You can learn more about our direction for this year, which includes political education, cultural organizing, continuing to pretend to be the U.S. government, and something mysterious we like to call micro gatherings.
All USDAC members are welcome to join us for our quarterly Network Gatherings. Join as a member and find out about the next gathering by signing up for our newsletter here.
