USDAC Inauguration Celebration

The people-powered department cordially invites you to make history with us as we celebrate the public launch of the National Cabinet, a group of key leaders committed to USDAC values who will expand our national conversation around art and culture in the public interest—and the public interest in art and culture. 

Join Chief Policy Wonk Arlene Goldbard, Deputy Secretary Norman Beckett, and other special guests at the Bowery Poetry Club for a participatory evening of exploration around the themes of art, creativity, cultural democracy, and movement-building. Plus - music, drinks, creative prompts, new swag, and the announcement of our next big action!

At the invitation of East Lawrence friends, we will be hosting and facilitating an -

Imagining for East 9th Street
Sunday, November 16th
10 - 2pm


The location will be announced soon.

Like our big Imagining at Haskell this past June, we will transport ourselves into the future where our dreams for the neighborhood have come true. We'll explore how they came into being and what challenges were faced along the way.

The Imagining will also be a potluck - we'll share lunch during our break.

USDAC Border Delegation

A national delegation of artists, architects, writers and dreamers will observe and document a unique part of the US/Mexico border region. New York City Artist Janet Goldner will be joining the Tucson Arts Brigade and US Department of Arts and Culture to look at the impact of the immigration crisis around Tucson and the greater border region.

 

Saturday September 13

8am - 1pm     Meet at 29th & Columbus for annual 9/11 Day of Service

6pm         Cuadro Latino's Gallery 972 E University Blvd. 

Sunday September 14

10:30 am     Meet at Citizens Studios (44 W 6th St.): Car pool to Nogales to visit;

            - Kino Border Initiatives Kitchen at the Border, 
            - Red Cross and the 
            - Grupo Beta stations, 

(Note: These 3 locations are in the Mexican side so be prepared with ID- passport, we expect to spend 4 hours in Mexico.)

4pm         Nogales Arizona Downtown, lunch discussion of what we saw.

5pm         Walk to try to find the traces of the old Nogales that used to be just one city, heritage, paths, culture, visual language.

Monday September 15

11:30         Safe Park Dream Center, tour of solution based ideas CCA 939 S 10th Ave.

12:30        Visit to South Tucson murals and community cultural development sites. 10th Ave, La Pilita, Old Barrio, Jewish History Museum

1:30pm     Visit to the court (Sandy Bernal what is the location?) observe "operation streamline" the             quick-court for immigrants

2:30pm     Visit of downtown Tucson, UA via trolly, lunch

The afternoon will feature pop-up performances, a barter board, break-out conversations, and a Project Open Mic. Lots of possibility; no panel.
