CULTURE/SHIFT Participant Opportunities

CultureShift2018-02.jpg

There are multiple ways to take part in CULTURE/SHIFT 2018. If there’s something you’d be really excited about sharing/presenting/offering, here are a few opportunities. Please note: 1) we are especially interested in offerings that are participatory, experiential, and/or skill-building and 2) due to the limits of time and space, we are not able to accept every proposal.

Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the USDAC’s work and Statement of Values before submitting a proposal. CULTURE/SHIFT 2018 programming will touch on timely and resonant regional and national themes including, but not limited to, immigration, indigenous cultural rights, climate justice, public memory, ethics of community-based arts, and community development/displacement. We welcome submissions related to these and other critical themes at the intersection of art, culture, community development, and social justice.

We are no longer accepting Session Proposals for 2018. Thanks for your interest!

Workshops/Sessions

Between our local host committee and our national organizing team, much of CULTURE/SHIFT 2018 programming is already in the works. That said, we are accepting a limited number of workshop proposals from the broader network. We are especially interested in participatory workshops/sessions that give participants new skills or tools, create opportunities for collaboration and relationship-building, and/or that enable deep dialogue on important themes.  We are not looking for standard-format panels or one-way presentation of projects.

Accepted workshop presenters will receive free registration for all three days of CULTURE/SHIFT 2018, but are responsible for their own travel and lodging. Presenters who wish to receive home hospitality will receive priority status on the home hospitality guest list. (We will do our best to provide everyone with home hospitality who requests it, but cannot guarantee housing.)

FRED Talks

Want to share a rad idea or project with CULTURE/SHIFT 2018 attendees? Apply to give a FRED (Fresh, Radical, Educational, Dynamic) Talk! And no need to confine yourself to talking; this could also be a performance! Offerings should be between 5-12 minutes.

Accepted FRED Talk presenters must still register and are responsible for their own travel and lodging.

Sharing Print Materials

You are welcome to bring print materials about your work/organization/project. We will have tables available for folks to leave/share materials. If you have questions feel free to write: cultureshift@usdac.us
